Western Plains Zoo

Taronga Western Plains Zoo

Up very early because wanted to get a lot into our day tour of Western Plains Zoo in our rushed trip to Dubbo – heaps to see and do today.

Checked out of the Countryman Motor Inn before heading off to McDonalds to fill up our bodies – followed by Shell to fill up the car.

Found our way to the Zoo and spent the next few hours wandering around. Great zoo I must say – nice and up close with lots of the animals and lots of ways to get around.

From there we headed into town – and Kenneth got completely freaked by one of the locust that was flying around. The town was swamped with them a few weeks ago and it has only started to get better recently. The car was covered in them.

We went to the Old Dubbo Gaol next – really quite interesting to see how prisoners were treated – as late as only 40 years ago.

Had a late lunch at Hog’s Breath Cafe before hitting the road back to Sydney. It was a slow trip – but eventually made it – and headed to CarLovers to bring the Jazz back up to scratch. Spent the rest of the night putting together a photo to send to the two mum’s for Mother’s Day and sent it off to Extrafilm to get it processed as part of the gift. Hope it works out OK.

Damn tired. Night.

Coming out ball

Today was a really interesting day because I was heading home to the family property to watch my little sister – who is only 17 – make her debut. Interesting times ahead.

We were up really early and packed the car before heading to pig out on a big breakfast before the drive. We then hit the road – and it wasn’t until we got about 70km outside Sydney that we realised that neither of us had shoes. I wasn’t about to hit the ball in the Paul Smith suit and a pair of Kenneth Cole sneakers – so we headed back to town to pick them up.

Finally arrived at my parents place about 4pm and found ourselves surrounded by people I didn’t really know – but who knew a lot about me. The funniest bit was when one of the family friends showed me the photo of her son and both Kenneth and I agreed he was gay for sure!

Went to the ball – which was interesting – tried to take some pics to include in a Mother’s Day present I want to work up – but not sure that is going to be a great outcome. After the presentation – hit the road and headed towards Dubbo. Got there about 1am – and eventually found the Countryman Motor Inn and crashed pretty heavily. Too many near microsleeps on the road.
